Community

Deeper connections.

Staying here supports more than your journey.

Our neighbours

The lodge is closely connected to its surrounding community.

For decades, the Muller family has worked hand in hand with neighbouring villages, not just as hosts, but as long-term partners in growth and sustainability. A significant part of our team is proudly made up of local residents, creating meaningful employment opportunities and ensuring that the lodge reflects the spirit and warmth of the community it belongs to.

Beyond employment, we actively invest in local development. We support nearby schools through the provision of desks, learning materials, and essential stationery, helping to create better environments for education. We have also contributed to the construction of sanitation facilities, improving health and dignity within the villages.

Our commitment extends to environmental stewardship as well. Through ongoing tree-planting initiatives, we work alongside the community to preserve and restore the natural landscape that defines this region.

We are especially proud of our sewing initiative for young women, a program designed to equip girls with practical skills, enabling them to generate income and build independent futures. It is one of the many ways we aim to create lasting impact beyond the lodge itself.

At Mullers Mountain Lodge, every stay contributes to a broader story, one of community, empowerment, and shared progress.

Forest & environment

Trees, planted every October.

Each October, we run a planting drive together with local schools. Pupils plant the seedlings; we provide the trees, the tools, and the follow-up care.

More than 10,000 trees have been planted to date. This year, the goal is 3,000 more, spread across school grounds and hillsides in the Usambaras.

Schools we support

Three schools, ongoing work.

Over the years we have helped build, repair, and maintain three nearby schools, contributing classrooms, toilets, paint, and trees.

  • Kwezinga Primary School

School building support, toilets, tree-planting, painting.

  • Mkuzi Primary School

    Construction help, sanitation, classroom upkeep.

  • Mkuzi Secondary School

Building work, painting, and ongoing reforestation visits.

Local team

Trained at the lodge, expert in their craft.

Our staff come from the villages around us. They have been trained over the years in kitchen work, hospitality, guiding, and grounds, to become true experts at what they do. Hospitality here is a local profession.
